Editorial, as appeared in East Kilbride News September 07 Following recent sell-out success with Fame! and Absolute Divas , Studio 32 return to the Village Theatre with A Chorus Line. Ever faced the interview from hell? A faceless, aggressive interviewer? No knowledge of what questions to expect? Fiercely competitive candidates? Remember the sweaty palms, the nervous laugh, the constant fidgeting? The hours spent agonising over the right outfit then the hours spent waiting to hear the decision? These horrors and more await the hopeful auditionees in Marvin Hamlisch's classi Auditioning for a Broadway show is little different from interviewing for any job, if a little more physical and all walks of human life are here. The girls next door with stars in her eyes, the over eager adolescent trying out for his first ever job, the hard nosed seasoned pro who is on her last chance of stardom, the high school reject determined to prove her teachers wrong, the neglectd adolescent who shaves her sister's head in a fit of jealousy and the one performer with true star quality, trying to fit back in with the crowd. Who will make it and who will not?! The tension, the fun, the challenge, the tears and the overwhelming sense of energy and excitement are what lift this musical out of the ordinary and into the realms of truly classic entertainment. A Chorus Line is seldom performed due to the demanding physical nature of the show and the fact that all the cast have to act, sing and dance brilliantly. |
